Will Ferrell is back in theaters and, after venturing into comedic drama with “Stranger Than Fiction,” is back where he should be — doing silly, mindless comedies.

In “Blades of Glory,” now in theaters, Ferrell and Jon Heder (a.k.a. Napoleon Dynamite) play a pair of figure skaters who don't care for one another. They are stripped of their gold medals and banned from the sport for life after they humiliate themselves by brawling at the figure skating World Championships.

Nearly four years later, Chazz Michael Michaels (Ferrell) and Jimmy MacElroy (Heder) discover a loophole in the figure skating rules that will allow them to re-enter the sport. It requires that the two rivals skate as a team in the pairs competition.

While figure skating doesn't seem like the ideal subject for a sports movie, it isn't the first non-mainstream sport to garner Hollywood's attention.

Here are some favorites:

‘DODGEBALL: A TRUE UNDERDOG STORY'
Year: 2004
Sport: Anyone?
Premise: Lovable losers set out to win a Las Vegas dodge ball tournament.
The 210 take: This movie featured Ben Stiller, Mrs. Ben Stiller and a half-assed performance from Vince Vaughn, yet somehow managed to entertain. Now that is a true underdog story.

‘KINGPIN'
Year: 1996
Sport: Bowling
Premise: A one-handed bowler grooms an Amish bowling prodigy for a major tournament.
The 210 take: Do you view most professional bowlers as chain-smoking, beer-swilling, nonathletes? If so, this film did nothing to change your mind.

‘BRING IT ON'
Year: 2000
Sport: Cheerleading
Premise: Two teams from opposite sides of the tracks square off in a national competition.
The 210 take: Several pretty chicks, including Kirsten Dunst, in tiny cheerleading outfits — many people needed no other reason to see the movie, but at least they learned a thing or two about the highly competitive world of cheerleading.

‘THE CUTTING EDGE'
Year: 1992
Sport: Figure skating
Premise: A hockey player teams up with a figure skater, the two go for figure-skating gold.
The 210 take: “Blades of Glory” is going to have to be hilarious to top this hilarious flick. “The Cutting Edge,” however, was a drama.

‘COOL RUNNINGS'
Year: 1993
Sport: Bobsledding
Premise: A true story that focused on the first Jamaican bobsled team.
The 210 take: The Jamaicans didn't even medal. What kind of uplifting true story was this?

‘ROUNDERS'
Year: 1998
Sport: Poker
Premise: A former poker player returns to the game to pay off a friend's debt.
The 210 take: Protest if you must, but poker is a sport, even though most professionals can't count their chips without getting winded.

‘MURDERBALL'
Year: 2005
Sport: Wheelchair rugby
Premise: A documentary detailing a team of wheelchair-bound athletes competing at the Paralympic Games in Athens, Greece.
The 210 take: The term “courage” is all-too-often used in sports. That term should be reserved for athletes such as these.

‘THE KARATE KID'
Year: 1984
Sport: This is a tough one.
Premise: Daniel-san, with Mr. Miyagi in his corner, takes on the evil Cobra Kai.
The 210 take: The real-life ending to this movie isn't quite so sweet. Mr. Miyagi dies, and Daniel-san ends up starring as himself in an episode of “Entourage.”

‘OVER THE TOP'
Year: 1987
Sport: Arm wrestling
Premise: Truck driver Lincoln Hawk (Sylvester Stallone) enters a major arm-wrestling tournament in Las Vegas while trying to forge a relationship with his estranged son (David Mendenhall)Ö.
The 210 take: Wait a minute. There's such a thing as a “major” arm- wrestling tournament?
