In addition to Joey's front room, shown here, there are pool tables in back and tables outside and upstairs for a quieter venue. It's all good.

WHERE: Joey's, 2417 N. St. Mary's St. near Ashby, next to the Mix. Its prime location on the St. Mary's Strip makes it perfect for bar-hopping.

THE DIGITS: (210) 733-9573

GET YOUR DRINK ON: 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday-Friday; 6 p.m.-2 a.m. Saturday; closed Sunday

HOTTIES QUOTIENT: Joey's attracts such a diverse crowd that there's bound to be someone for everyone. Beware the regulars who seem like they've been on the same bar stool since the place opened 18 years ago, but keep your eye out for hipsters who are warming up before seeing a band at the Limelight or White Rabbit.

WALLET HANGOVER: Joey's is a laid-back, unpretentious hangout, and the prices reflect that. Expect to pay an average of $3.50 for draft beers. Happy hour runs 4-7 p.m. Monday-Friday.

THE 210 TAKE: If you want a comfortable place to take a friend, co-worker or date, Joey's is the place. The front room gets packed, but you can head into the spacious back area for a little pool, upstairs for a private conversation or outside for some fresh air. Joey's is a reliable standby for college students and people who work downtown. Drop in, and you'll understand why.
