Family affair a Texas treat Print E-mail

Reckless Kelly and Micky and the Motorcars concerts are always a good time for the Texas country music lover, but they're also a family affair for the two bands of country rockers.

The Braun brothers, four of them to be exact, are the driving force behind two of Texas' most popular acts. Willy and Cody Braun are part of the wildly popular Reckless Kelly, and little brothers Micky and Gary head up Micky and the Motorcars.

From Idaho, the Brauns now call Austin home and occasionally treat audiences in South Texas to combined shows.

Such a treat was as sweet as ever on a recent night at John T. Floore Country Store. Although shows as big as this one usually take advantage of Floore's “largest outdoor dancehall in the state of Texas” claim, this evening's festivities were crammed inside the bar's old wood walls.

Willy and Micky, with their signature good looks, both donned bandanas and incited the crowd with such tunes as “Love is Where I Left It” and “Crazy Eddie's Last Hurrah” — which are always better live.

But,the best part of a Reckless Kelly show these days is their version of Richard Thompson's 1952 “Vincent Black Lightening.” You can catch it on their latest album, Reckless Kelly Was Here. The Brauns are playing together again April 14 at the Wolf Pen Creek Amphitheatre in College Station.
