There's a catfight in full swing on the Net involving a couple of stand-up TV personalities.
Ladies and gentleman, in this corner, Joe Rogan! The guy from ..... Hold on a second.
("Fear Factor?" What the hell is a fear factor? "News Radio?" OK, that one I know.)
In this corner, "This Guy," Joe Rogan! All righty then, and in that corner, Ned Holness! I mean, Ned Hortense. No, Ned Arnel Mencia! Wait, OK, now I have it, Carlos Mencia!
It is Rogan vs. Mencia, a study in futility. It's funny but also confusing if you take it too seriously.
Basically, awhile back, Mencia went on a radio show and said Rogan admires him and is jealous.
Rogan got pissed and made a video. He and a lot of other comedians I have never heard of, say in it that Mencia steals jokes and he's not really Mexican, which is the basis of many of his jokes. Granted, he was born in Honduras, but Mencia's mom is Mexican. That counts in my book.
The video shows Rogan confronting Mencia onstage at The Comedy Store some club. The two shout at each other, and Rogan proceeds to rip Mencia a new one.
There's no denying Rogan flat out handles Mencia during the stand-up bitch-slap fest. Of course, it is his tape, so he could've had it edited to his benefit.
However, it wasn't the best PR moment for Mencia; he comes off looking fazed and defensive.
After flaming the Net hard on sites like YouTube and MySpace, the video is being ripped down faster than you can say lawyer. Can't find it? I can help.
Rogan: You steal jokes! (slap)
Mencia: You're just jealous! (back pedal)
Rogan: Every unknown comedian knows that you steal jokes! (name-drops some dude)
Mencia: Nuh uhh! (starts shaking)
Rogan: Blah blah blah! (foams at mouth)
Mencia: I am too a Mexican! (pulls out his green card -- no really, he does)
Some Jewish dude: You stole my joke. (stares accusingly)
Rogan: SEE!
Mencia: NOOO! Why would a Jew make a Mexican joke? (huh?)
Me: Start trying to cut wrists with a spork. (did not work)
The end: Just go check out their MySpace pages. The fight and video continue there.
Amid the contrived turmoil and hype, which I am admittedly taking part in by writing this, Rogan was dropped by his agent and banned from the club where the confrontation took place.
Mencia still has a hit show on Comedy Central and, according to Rogan, may or may not be a Mexican.
Me? Wrist burn.
