The short hot pants of one of law enforcement's most enigmatic deputy sheriffs has hit the big screen.
And le dude brought more than his tighty whities. Seriously, when Lt. Jim Dangle rolled into Miami Beach, he brought the entire "Reno 911!" crew in his comfy back pocket.
And wouldn't you know it, he left room for all of us. And, well, he should because friends, it would've taken an LAPD-style beating to keep me away from my $8 bucket of corn and "Reno 911!: Miami."
While at a Miami police convention, the hapless Reno crew is called to the rescue after a terrorist attack.
It sounds corny and predictable. But no more than, say, the No. 1 TV show in America. What's its name again?
When Comedy Central green-lit the improv-style "Reno 911!" about some of Reno's finest back in aught-three, angels sang, funny busted us, and we were all hit with a natural 20, dealing crit damage to the solar plexus.
But despite being damned original, "Reno 911!" has yet to garner the kind attention it deserves.
I mean, I've done what I can. But I am only one man. I can only shout the show's praises to the masses for so long.
I have even been told that if I continue to pass out leaflets -- getting evangelical with my bad self -- laying down the word of "Reno 911!" in Valero parking lots, my hot dog and beef jerky privileges will be revoked.
But every man has his cause. And I enjoy the show so much that I'm willing to sacrifice my meat for it.
And with the show now trading up to movie, maybe, just maybe, America will open its eyes and embrace the $5 bag of oranges at the stoplight.
Longtime "Reno 911!" fans will know immediately what that means. The rest of you? Hmph, I am just disappointed.
Granted, moving the setting to Miami was a bit odd. But oddly enough, it worked. They even managed to bring along several of the series' frequent-guest malcontents.
No doubt the main cast is good, but if I hadn't seen Nick Swardson, a.k.a. Terry the roller-skating dude who hangs out at Tacos, Tacos, Tacos in Reno pulling tricks, things would've gotten ugly. |
