Debuting at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, on Comedy Central is a new series that is destined to be the funniest new show that most people won't watch.
“Michael & Michael Have Issues” stars comedians Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter.
Both were members of the '90s comedy troupe The State. Both also were behind perhaps the best show Comedy Central has yet to come up with, “Stella.”
Sadly, “Stella” crashed and burned into mere memories, but can this new endeavor from the Michaels make it past its first season?
Seriously, if this new show only entailed these guys blowing snot onto a piece of cardboard, it would still be the funniest and mort entertaining thing you'd see on TV tonight.
While that idea might actually be pretty funny, luckily “Michael & Michael Have Issues” has much more to offer.
After seeing the first two episodes, I rejoiced because it meant I could finally stop lighting my face on fire to numb the real pain of droll network TV on Wednesday nights.
“Michael & Michael” is a combination of show styles like “The Office” with a dose of your average whatever sketch comedy show.
You will see sketch comedy of the highest order and inane monologues from the two Michaels that are interspersed with mockumentary-style comedic bits about the production of the show itself.
The show-within-a-show bits are incredibly good. Granted, I am biased, but try watching the Michaels go full on in a kung fu battle with each other over the attention of an intern and not laugh.
If you don't, well, then you must be a dirty communist.
The series is set for seven episodes. If it doesn't make it for a second run, I will hunt all of you down who didn't watch and force you to endure hours of Dane Cook stand-up as punishment.
One more thing: The complete DVD series of the “The State” finally hit stores. So if you've ever wondered how the likes of “Reno 911!” “Viva Variety,” “Stella” and this new show got their start, check it out. Plus, I get 15 cents every time someone buys a copy after reading this.
