Hotties quotient: There were a few babes hanging around the joint, though really it read more like “The Great Gatsby” than “The Sex Chronicles.” That's a good thing. Like-minded individuals having conversations and a good time (minus the emptiness). Sit up at the bar and enjoy the chitchat and make sure to say hi to the owner, Michael Urbano, who'll be helping crack open the brews.

Wallet hangover: Slim. Domestics are $2 and imports are $3. With more than 50 beers already, selection is the name of the game. I had a Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse for $3. They also have buckets of five Mexican beers for $10 — that's quite a deal, and oh-so-delicious in this Texas heat.

The 210 take: I had two totally different experiences at The Pedicab: a Monday afternoon and a Friday night. The afternoon was somewhat surreal: “Resident Evil IV” on a huge TV, eerie noises emanating from the surround-sound speakers in the ceiling. The late-afternoon light angled through the windows in the front, creating a burst of light that was quickly swallowed by the dark interior, giving the impression of being bright and dim at the same time. I was sold. Paintings from different artists hung on the wood-siding walls, and corrugated metal takes up the edges of the ceiling. On a Friday, in the middle of the intimate space, two pool tables were occupied most of the evening, and people played darts at the front. Good '80s music like The Clash was churned out. After a few beers, I spoke some with Urbano, who is friendly and knowledgeable. He poured me a Franziskaner properly, which was refreshing, and spoke about his plans to start delivery service (beer and food from local restaurants) to the King William and Lavaca areas (beer delivery: How cool is that?). He's just working out the logistics. But don't let that keep you away: It all adds up to a space that is both comfortable and a little edgy. I couldn't be happier to have a neighborhood bar like this one in Southtown.

Grade: A+
