GET YOUR DRINK ON: This is another one of those wonderfully, ever-open establishments: 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. every day except Sunday, when it's open noon to 2 a.m. Happy hour — get this — is from 7 in the morning to 7 at night. You could drink for 12 hours (and that would be quite the full day) at happy hour prices, which are basically 25 cents off the drinks (and if you're drinking for 12 hours, that's probably a pretty good savings). The beer offerings are the usual domestics with a Heineken thrown in there, but they do have a full bar, too. Can't argue with that.
HOTTIES QUOTIENT: This is a neighborhood bar. Come on. There was one attractive woman there (come to think of it, she was the only woman there besides the bartendress), and she was pretty fizzy by the time I arrived at nine-ish (I'm just stating the facts here, not making any judgment calls, mind you). But like I said, it didn't strike me as a place to pick up chicks. Sit back, have a beer and enjoy the game on TV.
WALLET HANGOVER: Not bad. Regular prices were just over $2 for a beer ($3.25 for a Heineken) and $3 for a well drink (minus the quarter for happy hour, of course). All said and done, you could stagger out of there pretty tight a little after rush hour with a few dollars left to your name. Not too shabby.
THE 210 TAKE: The dirty purple industrial door set in the dull orange wall on the corner of Glenview and Babcock is not particularly inviting, but we went in anyway. My drinking buddy and I ordered Heinekens and got carded. The digital sign on the wall said August 1988. Seriously.
San Antonio was in the Little League World Series and kicking some serious ass, but the guy next to me and I were more curious about what they feed these kids. One 12-year-old was 5'9” and another weighed 204 lbs. It was topic of some fascination. It also told me that people are friendly. Always a big plus. It's much larger inside than it looks from the outside, with lots of wooden tables and chairs with red-pleather backs.
The bar stools were comfortable, too. Strangely, the ceiling above the bar was all mirrors, which reflected the patented '50s lighting creating a swanky, relaxing atmosphere. And for those of you who like games, I Don't Know Yet has three pool tables and three electronic dartboards, not to mention three huge TVs. This would be an ideal place to watch the Cowboys.
As I left, I noticed that the door looked considerably more inviting, as I'm sure it will when I go back.
